Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell (born in New York City) is an American TV reporter, journalist and anchor for NBC News based at Washington D.C. Mitchell holds a bachelor's degree in English language from University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell began her career working as a TV and radio reporter for Philadelphia, KYW Radio and TV. She became a reporter for the CBS-affiliated WDVM-TV, (then WTOP) and was stationed in Washington DC. She was promoted to Washington general reporter with NBC News two years later. In 1981 she started reporting from the White House. In 1988 she became the chief congressional reporter. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 as well as chief foreign reporter of NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and was panelists on the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist in 1988's presidential debates that pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell was married Alan Greenspan the former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 the Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism in the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004 the Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA), honored Mitchell for her contribution in the defense of First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell was the very first reporter to report on White House stories for NBC News during the time of Ronald Reagan as president between 1981 and 1988. Mitchell covered a wide range of noteworthy stories, such as the Iran-Contra scandal, the tax reforms to the budget and arms control. Mitchell traveled along with President Ronald Reagan several times to summits and debate topics including that of the Iran Contra scandal.
